PS4 LIVE Reveal

It’s widely expected that Sony will announce PlayStation 4 at a New York event this evening. You’ll be able to watch the entire thing live in the embedded video above.
The press conference kicks off at 6.00pm EST / 23:00 GMT. The stream will start five minutes before the event begins.

Meanwhile, here are the latest rumours milling round the web:
The latest nugget of information is that Sony registered a domain called ‘PlayStation Cloud’, triggering further speculation that PS4 will use Gaikai cloud streaming tech straight out of the box.

However, the potential downside could be that PS4 isn’t backwards-compatible, and that you will only be able to play PS3 games and older by signing up to the streaming service. An EA executive has also stated that PS4 probably won’t be backwards-compatible.

It could be that your PS3 discs will be useless once you make the switch to PS4, and the same could go for pre-owned titles, as a patent filed last year suggests that the console will use NFC tech to lock games to a single unit, ensuring they won’t work on other consoles.

We’ve also seen a lot of alleged PS4 controller photos. This image shows the pad sitting in front what is believed to be a PS4 dev kit. It appears to have a Move motion strip on the top, an in-built microphone, headphone jack and the long-rumoured touch pad that keeps on popping up.

There’s no sign of that rumoured ‘Share’ button though. Could it be part of the PS4′s XMB instead?

But what about the Move strip on top of the controller? Well, sources have suggested that PS4 will come bundled with a dual-camera PlayStation Eye peripheral, in a bid to make every console motion-ready.

The system sounds similar to Microsoft’s Kinect bar, but actually built into the standard controller, removing the need for a Move wand. However, don’t be surprised if the Move device still works with PS4, as Sony spent a lot of money on developing it.

Speaking of money, PS4 is said to be launching at £300 here in Blighty, according to documents that leaked over the weekend.

That would be impressive, considering our sources revealed that PS4 would use an AMD 10 chip-set as its base, and feature 4x Dual Core CPUs inside.

We’re expecting some games to be revealed tonight. Top of the pile is rumoured launch window game Killzone 4 and the new game from Motorstorm developer Evolution. The latter is said to be a racing game that was originally designed as a Gran Turismo offshoot until Sony Japan axed the link.

We also reported that LittleBigPlanet 3 is in development at Sumo Digital, and that another new racing game is in development at Ivory Tower, and is said to be the spiritual successor to Test Drive Unlimited.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is also rumoured to have dropped the ‘XIII’ tag, and is now a PS4 exclusive, which would explain the ridiculous delay in any real information about the title. It is rumoured to be shown tonight after Square-Enix started laying tease-bombs yesterday.

Finally, Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream has registered a PS4 domain for something called ‘Singularity’, and is heavily-rumoured to reveal its debut game for the platform tonight. Could this be an extension of its Kara tech demo, or something new?
