Perazzi, in the Ferrari, was lapped by Davidson, and unfortunately made contact with Davidson's Toyota.
To begin with, it was thought that the 33-year-old was going to be fine, and that he was to be taken to hospital as a precaution, just to be checked over. However, while being checked over it was discovered that he actually broke two vertebrae in his back.
Fortunately, Davidson can recover from the injuries he suffered, and are not permanent. Over a long period of time, Davidson is likely to make a full recovery, and return to commentating and racing as soon as he can.
Davidson seemed in good spirits despite his terrible crash saying:
"Well that was a big one! Lying in a French hospital with a broken back wasn't what I had in mind at this stage in the race. Gutted for the Toyota Hybrid team who did an amazing job all week. Thank god I can follow the race on Twitter though!"
