World Champion, Sebastian Vettel was able to hold off valiant challenges from Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso to place 1st on the grid in Montreal. Vettel actually set two laps that were quick enough to earn him pole. Lewis Hamilton will partner Vettel on the front row, and is likely to give a strong challenge to the German.
Hamilton looked a favourite for pole, as he was quickest in both P1 and P2, but fell 0.3s behind Vettel's impressive 1:13:784 flying lap. Fernando Alonso places third on the grid, just 0.067s behind the Brit. Sky Sports Martin Brundle said: "Fernando Alonso will be bitterly disappointed at being third" This is because the Spanish driver looked in great form in the earlier qualifying sessions.
Monaco's winner, Mark Webber, makes up the third row, along with Fernando Alonso. Hamilton's teammate, Jenson Button, again disappointed for the third race in succession in qualifying, just edging into the top 10, and will start 10th on the grid, alongside Michael Schumacher, who has won at Canada the most times, with 7 wins.
British Paul Di Resta will start on the 4th row in 8th, along side Romain Grosjean. Both drivers out-qualified their teammates.
